The Prue Leith Academy is the only cooking school in South Africa where students will receive a well rounded education in a mere 18 month period. After their training at the cooking school, they will be ready to head out into the world of five star cooking.

Our students are trained in the French style of cooking, but don’t think that their training isn’t complete. The intense 18-month programme focuses on a number of important aspects of being a chef. One of the big focus areas is finance – this compulsory module will ensure that our students are fully aware of the financial implications in running a restaurant and also the pitfalls many young restaurateurs make, namely costing of their dishes. This is vitally important to being the owner of a successful restaurant.

Another aspect of our training is menu planning. When preparing a five course meal it is essential that there is cohesiveness in the dishes. A part of this training is portion sizes, while everyone enjoys a substantial meal, it is important for dishes to be the right size, you don’t want people to go hungry or waste food because the earlier dishes were too rich.

This cooking school is situated in Centurion on a sprawling estate where students can truly be creative. Students will also have the opportunity to work in the Prue Leith restaurant kitchen from as soon as two weeks of starting with the course.
