From graduation to orientation – December and January is always filled with highlights and emotions at Prue Leith Chefs Academy as we graduate one class and start the culinary love affair all over with another.
2012 most certainly ended on a high note with another 27 graduates who strolled down the red carpet to receive their well deserved Grande Diplomas and Diplomas. We look forward to seeing the impact that this group will have on our industry as there was no shortage of creativity and enthusiasm for good food.
Not all the graduates are entering the industry though – not yet – as a group of eight students left for Italy to continue their studies at the Academy’s partner school ALMA La Scuola di Cucina Italiana. There has been very good feedback from Parma where the students are almost getting ready for their five month stage after spending two months in ALMA getting the “full immersion” in all things Italian.
Back home orientation in January was a beehive of activity with a record intake of students, all eager to share in the fascinating world of food and to achieve the much sought after Prue Leith qualifications.
The 2nd Commis class hosted a fabulous braai to welcome their new culinary comrades and proved that team work is indeed the secret to a good meal!
With lectures well on the way already the 1st Commis are slowly discovering their chosen career one chop at a time and despite the occasional plaster covered fingers, their introduction to the tools of the trade yielded some promising knife skills. Like ducks to water it seems!
With a busy restaurant, functions and special events streaming in we have another action packed semester ahead of us – so all focus on the food and let’s cook!
