Celebrating Prue Leith’s rising stars

A huge congratulations and good luck is in order for Prue Leith graduate Wynand van Rooyen who recently won the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Young Chef of the Year 2011.

Wynand’s winning menu compiled in a mystery basket competition was:

  • Sea bass with ratatouille and an ouzo sauce
  • Roast lamb with potato fondant, lentil and date salad with a lamb brain jus
  • Chocolate soufflé with a pomegranate parfait

Wynand is currently chef de partie at the Planet restaurant at the Mount Nelson Hotel and will represent South Africa at the international final in Istanbul, Turkey on 9 September 2011.

Congratulations are also in order for 2nd Commis Gontse Moyane as she was recently included into the 2011 South African National Culinary Junior Team.
