Slow Food Convivium
There are more and more places to buy great quality food than ever. More and more people are becoming aware of what they are eating and these products are not available in the large supermarkets. You have to go shopping in all the specialized markets for your weekly food groceries. Slow food celebrates, protects and promotes foods which are good, clean and fair.
Good food is delicious and part of cultural heritage. Clean food is grown sustainably, in an environmentally responsible manner. Fair food is produced by farmers and artisans who are free to choose how, when, where and what food they produce, and are adequately remunerated and respected for there work. Believing that the enjoyment of food is a right of all people.
The international slow food movement started in Italy and this was a reaction against the standardisation of food, especially fast food. Slow food is the preservation, encouragement, and promotion of local specialities, for example cheeses, breads, traditional meats and varieties of fruits and vegetables from small scale producers, seen as a symbol of both gastronomic delight and slowness.
There are food markets open all over South Africa, mostly on weekends. The quality of food fare is mouth watering. The food is also made with love and one can taste the care that is taken in the preparation. Happy food marketing. You will find a happy smile from those selling the food and a great knowledge and love for the product.
I have spent most of my working life traveling and have a great love for great food. I have shopped all the best food markets of the world and can proudly say that South Africa is really doing the right thing and the food is great here. LOVE LIFE LOVE FOOD.
