Why I teach

The food industry in South Africa at the moment is such a vibrant interesting industry to be in. Spending my time with like minded people, sharing knowledge is a perfect way to spend a working day.

Being able to inspire and encourage our young chefs or the food enthusiast to see what is out there and make use of our fantastic local ingredients, to create beautiful food is a pleasure.

I am proud to be part of a group of people who believe in empowering each other as well as those around them. In teaching students the great respect that the basic culinary arts deserve I believe the industry in South Africa has a great culinary future ahead.

How do you feel about the hospitality industry in South Africa?

I firmly believe that South Africa can hold its own in the world food industry, we have all we need right here. All our young chefs are creating a hospitality industry for all South Africans to be proud of, and that the rest of the world can recognize as being one of the best.

What advice would you give a student that is about to begin training at Prue Leith?

Be prepared to work hard. A consistent dedication and commitment to the course will definitely be worth it in the end. There will be plenty of opportunities for you to learn that little bit extra every day, grab those opportunities with both hands, they will serve you well in the future.
