Chef Schools

Where on Earth do you apply to if you want to train to be a chef? Well. There are a number of chef schools dotted about South Africa, so it all boils down to deciding which one you want to go to and then applying for a place on one of their courses. As far as chef schools go though, there is absolutely no doubt as to which is the best. The Prue Leith Chefs’ Academy in Pretoria has trained world class chefs who have worked in famous kitchen all around the world – kitchens such as Jamie Oliver’s, the Roux Brothers’ and Gordon Ramsay’s, and you can’t have a better recommendation than that. Prue Leith, the patron of the academy, was awarded the OBE for her outstanding service to the catering industry in the UK.

Don’t think that you can just walk into this outstanding academy though. If you have the right Matric qualifications you will first have to attend an interview at the academy, which you may be invited to once you have paid the processing fee. When compared with other chef schools Prue Leith’s have several things they can boast about. For example, you often see “Prue Leith graduates only” in the job section for chefs in the newspaper and online classifieds. Also, this is the only chefs training academy in South Africa that has both a fine dining restaurant (it has been awarded its Blaizon from the Chaine Des Rotisseurs) ranked in the top 100 in South Africa and a fully equipped demonstration kitchen on site allowing for superior hands on practical experience.

When you’re looking for chef schools, look no further than Prue Leith’s.
