Chefs’ Careers

Chefs’ careers start off in the classroom, and what better classroom than the Prue Leith Chefs’ Academy? Since 1997 the Prue Leith Chefs’ Academy has trained world-class chefs who have gone on to work in some of the more famous kitchens around the world. Kitchens like Jamie Oliver’s, the Roux Brothers’ and Gordon Ramsay’s. The untouchable standards of teaching are monitored all the time so that they can be modified and improved where necessary to ensure that students are assured of having excellent chefs’ careers on graduation from the college. Training at this catering college is second to none. The college even imports caviar from Iran, truffles from Italy and salmon from Scandinavia to ensure that students get to use the finest possible ingredients in the training kitchen.

Chefs’ careers may start off in the classroom, but these trainee chefs don’t spend all their time there. Very soon after the start of their course they are put to work in the Prue Leith Restaurant, a fine food restaurant that is set in the college grounds. Open five nights a week, the students get to spend time in every position in the restaurant and its kitchen under supervision. This restaurant is rated in South Africa’s top 100, an indication of the work and dedication of these catering students. During their last two semesters students are placed in some of South Africa’s top restaurants, hotels and game lodges to gain more on the job experience to further their chefs’ careers. This is a catering college to be reckoned with.
