Cooking Schools

The Prue Leith Chef’s Academy has long been rated as being at the top of the list of cooking schools in South Africa. The curriculum and its teaching are kept under close scrutiny by a board of eminent people with ties to the catering industry. These strategically selected advisors have been brought together to ensure that standards are not just maintained, but are exceeded. Of all the cooking schools in South Africa Prue Leith’s is the only one that can boast its own Fine Food restaurant in the school grounds. Students who are lucky enough to get a place in the academy will all spend time working in the restaurant. In fact, they get to work in all the positions there – hot and cold kitchens, front of house, behind the bar and serving at table.

The chef diploma course here runs for a full eighteen months, starting in January and July of each year. Numbers are limited to thirty students, so there’s always a scramble for who gets a place here. This cooking school’s diploma is probably the most sought-after qualification in the South African catering establishment, and possession of it ensures the holder of a good position on graduation. Cooking schools can be judged by the placements of their former students, and graduates of Prue Leith’s have been found working in such kitchens as the Roux Brothers, Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver. The exclusive standards of education at Prue Leith’s are constantly monitored and improved where necessary to ensure that students always get the best possible training.
