Dynamic Cooking College

The difference between studying at Prue Leith College and any other cooking college is that Prue Leith is the superior cooking college of choice. For over ten years now we’re internationally recognised for turning out chefs of note. At Prue Leith College our aim is to produce and prepare young, aspiring chefs for the ever-growing food and travel industry – chefs who produce food of the highest quality. Situated in the centre of Gauteng, in Centurion, it is ideal for centrally-based students. For students from other areas, we have comfortable accommodation in our tranquil suburbs and across the road from our college with its beautiful rolling lawns. Because we believe hands-on experience is valuable, we use this method extensively at our cooking college. Therefore practical cooking is done on a daily basis.

To this end, the college boasts:

  • Fully equipped demonstration kitchen
  • Large teaching kitchen
  • Lecture room
  • 48 seat-restaurant
  • A boma for outdoor cooking
  • Tea garden
  • Venue for weddings, parties and receptions
  • Large, treed garden with pool
  • Herb garden

At Prue Leith College the students gain extensive experience in the kitchen, by spending time in each individual area. This way our cooking ensures that students are qualified to work effectively as either a professional chef, a pastry chef or a highly skilled, professional baker.

In order to build their business acumen the students play an active role in the running of our award wining restaurant. For instance, students receive both management and financial training – knowledge that is essential in the running of any business. This part of the training at our college includes buying of all goods, including daily, fresh produce. In addition, this includes the receiving and checking of deliveries, supervision of stock, storage, stock controls.

Finally, there is also food cost calculations, menu costing and the calculation of gross profit.
Suffice it to say there is huge prestige attached to qualifying with a Prue Leith College diploma
The course is conducted over a period of 18 month and divided into three semesters of six months each; courses commence in January and July of each year. On completion of the 18 month diploma, a formal awards graduation is held. Our cooking college gives students the tools to build a strong future in many fields in the hospitality industry – managerial, as an owner, or as a respected – and highly qualified – chef. At our cooking college we open doors to a delicious future.
