The Prue Leith Chefs’ Academy along with Prue Leith’s Restaurant are well known names in the South African catering world. A new branch has just been added to the group – the Prue Leith Chef’s Studio. Located in Centurion, Gauteng, the Prue Leith Chefs Studio is a modern professional kitchen dedicated to training professional chefs to further their skills and to inspiring the hobby cook to create new cuisines of the highest standard in their homes. To this end, the studio has started running cookery classes with a new look. Known previously for its eighteen month chefs’ courses, the Prue Leith group are now offering short courses ranging from half days to four days, with considerable emphasis being put on hands-on practical experience and fundamental knowledge. Cooking classes include bread making and an introduction to northwest African cooking.
If you love the smell of freshly baked bread and are delighted by butter melting on a warm slice that has just come out of the oven then you need to learn how to make your own bread. These cooking classes will demonstrate skills that will enable you to make bread even when you have a busy schedule. They will teach you how to use different flours and use different flavours to suit the occasion. This short course includes the theory of bread making, including the understanding of how the various ingredients in bread work. In these cooking classes you’ll learn how to make straight dough bread and a savoury bread as well as a traditional Roman flat bread. These short courses present a new and welcome look to the Prue Leith group.
