South Africa’s Quintessential Chef School

It Is Never Too Late to Learn with South Africa’s Quintessential Chef School

There is no timeline on one’s dreams. Throughout the course of your life, you may change career directions many times. As you grow, so do your hobbies and passions, and some might even blossom into your full-time line of work. Life is fleeting, and you owe it to yourself to find happiness and fulfilment in something you love, so why not study towards your dream at a superb chef school? Here at the Prue Leith Culinary Institute, we consider it a privilege to carry our students one step closer to their professional goals. And, as a learning institution considered the top culinary school in South Africa, students who enrol with us have a major head start when diving into this dynamic industry after their qualification.

World-Class Lecturing and Training Facilities

A chef school is only as good as the education they provide. Unfortunately, many students join fly-by-night culinary schools and colleges, many of which are unregistered and will not offer students a qualification of any value. If you are looking to make a success of your passion, then it is vital that you invest in your own future with a fantastic institution that prioritises your academic achievement. At the Prue Leith Culinary Institute, we take every step to ensure that those who study with us can comfortably step into a professional environment post-graduation and feel work ready. To make this possible, our team of expert lecturers and state-of-the-art training facilities are available from day one.

Our training facilities include a Training Kitchen, Patisserie Kitchen, Restaurant Kitchen, Lecture Rooms, and the Student Library. Students also have access to individual cooking stations, updated appliances and kitchen utensils, and access to multi-media learning technology and resources.

Diverse and Interactive Full-time Courses

Our carefully developed full-time courses offer in-depth, thorough training and industry experience. After graduation, you can step into your dream job armed with confidence and exceptional technical skill. Whether you are a complete amateur cook with a knack for whipping up delicious treats at home, or an established professional looking to refine your skills, you can choose between the following, full-time courses:

  • Occupational Certificate: Chef (Three years)
  • ALMA: Professional Chef of Italian Cuisine (19 months)
  • Introduction to Professional Cookery (One year)
  • Professional Patisserie (18 months)
  • Professional Patisserie (6 months)

Our full-time courses give students the opportunity for interactive learning, closely guided by our experienced lecturers. They will also have the opportunity to learn through practical work placements at our resident Prue Leith Restaurant from their second Commis Semester. Students who do not have the time to enrol in full-time courses at a chef school can also select one of our part-time courses, which will offer refresher skills or a steady introduction to the fascinating world of culinary prowess. We also offer one-, two-, and five-day short courses for anyone seeking specialised training to take their cooking to the next level.

For a chef school that will set you up for a creative, rewarding, and exciting future career, there is no better than the school that establishes the benchmark for excellence in culinary training – the Prue Leith Culinary Institute.
