Chef Career

We train our students in a variety of culinary areas to ensure that when they go on to work in a professional kitchen, that they do so with a wealth of knowledge and experience.

It is also for this reason that our students are so sought after in the industry. Many have gone on to start their chef career in top restaurants under celebrity chefs such as Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay and the Roux brothers. Our students are given fine ingredients to cook with like Iranian caviar, Italian truffles and foie gras, to name a few. This allows them to experiment with various tastes and textures as well as demonstrates the importance of a meal being both delicious to taste and visually appealing too. Our curriculum also includes a finance module which teaches our students about all the aspects involved in running a professional kitchen. We are also the only school in the country where this module is delivered by Chartered Accountants.

At the academy our full time students are given the opportunity to practise their newly acquired cooking skills in our fully equipped demonstration which doubles up as our popular onsite restaurant, Prue Leith’s. Voted as one of the top 100 restaurants in South Africa, it is our aspiring chefs who do the cooking under the watchful eyes of the professionals.
