Tucked away in a quiet corner of the Centurion suburb of Hennopspark is the Prue Leith Chef’s Academy. This culinary academy, which was founded in 1997,is located in the picturesque grounds of the old Littleton Manor House. Students attending the diploma course at Prue Leith’s know that they are going to be joining the elite few who have graduated from here, for this culinary academy is regularly rated as being the finest chef’s training institute in South Africa by the country’s top chefs. The standard of education here is constantly monitored and if necessary improved in order to make sure that it is always of the highest standard. Since the inception of the academy several features have been added to form what is now known as the Prue Leith Group. There is now a fine food restaurant in the college grounds, the Prue Leith Restaurant. A catering division has been opened close by, and more recently Prue Leith Placements and Prue Leith Consulting.
The diploma course at the Prue Leith culinary academy lasts for eighteen months – these being made up of three semesters – and starts twice a year in January and July. Graduates can make use of the placements division on completion of their course if they wish, but many of them have already found positions by this time. This is because they are placed in selected hotels, lodges and restaurants for two months at a time during their second and third semesters in order to gain first hand experience “in the field” – many graduates end up returning to the establishment where they have been working. These selected establishments are all top class and are located in South Africa, the Middle East and Europe. There is absolutely no doubt about the excellence of this culinary academy.
