How to become a chef

We have been rated as one of the top chef training institutions of our kind in the country, with an all inclusive curriculum that offers our students all the knowledge and experience they need for a successful career in professional kitchen.

When it comes to learning how to become a chef, we believe that a theoretical education is just as important as practical experience. Our curriculum is constantly monitored to ensure that our course material remains up to date with what is required in the culinary industry. When it comes to ingredients, our students are given only the highest quality of tastes and textures to experiment with from Iranian caviar and French frog’s legs to Belgian couverture chocolate and Italian truffles. This is so that when our students go on to work in five star kitchens, that they know what to look for when it comes to five star ingredients. Our students also cover an extensive finance module so that they may gain a wealth of kitchen management skills. The academy is also the only chefs training institution in South Africa were this finance module is taught by Chartered Accountants themselves.

Students can perfect their cooking skills in our fully equipped demonstration kitchen, which is also our onsite training restaurant, Prue Leith’s. Voted as one of the top 100 restaurants in South Africa, it is our students who do the cooking for all the guests under the watchful eyes of the professionals.
