Renowned Chefs Training College

A Chefs Training College for Everyone

If you think a career as a professional chef is all lights, camera, action, then think again. Most international cookery stars have completed some type of formal training. You can complete your training at a chefs training college. Prue Leith Culinary Institute is a chefs training college based in Centurion, Pretoria.

The prestigious Prue Leith restaurant on-site allows for students to be trained while in a working kitchen. The chefs who man the restaurant kitchen are students in their 2nd Commis semester. These budding food aficionados take care of the three specific divisions in the restaurant’s kitchen: Hot, Cold, and Pastry. However, they do not work here alone, as they are eagerly watched over by the academy’s lecturers. Treat yourself to fine dining cuisine at its best by visiting the restaurant or ordering in some of our delicious meals.

Practical training at the chefs training college also takes place at the academy’s partners, which include hotels, restaurants, and catering venues. So, while the Prue Leith Culinary Institute has state-of-the-art facilities and a working restaurant on site, the chefs training college still looks to give its students a variety of experience when it comes to studying to be a food professional. There is even the option to go to Italy and receive specific training related to Italian culture and cuisine.

Before they enter the working kitchens, students are trained in the basics of the culinary arts. For instance, in their first year, they will learn the basics of the theory and practice of preparing and finishing dishes, stocks, soups, sauces, rice, grains, meat, poultry, seafood, charcuterie, preserving, pastries, and hot and cold desserts.

This training takes place on Prue Leith’s campus, which includes several venues for various elements of the training. There are two main kitchens, a library, and lecture halls. All the facilities are fully equipped and offer audio-visual capabilities to further aid learning at the chefs training college.

As a student at Prue Leith Culinary Institute, you will have every opportunity to become the food professional you want to be through the various courses that are offered. If you want to become a pastry chef or an expert Italian cook, Prue Leith can guide you toward fulfilling your food professional dream.

Prue Leith also offers short courses for those looking to learn a new skill or start cooking for the very first time. With titles like “Versatile Vegetables” and “Art of Tarts”, you are sure to find something well-suited to explore your creative cooking side.
